This study aimed to explain the leading role of commanders in enhancing the knowledge management of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army and the research question is: “How should be the leading role of commanders in enhancing the knowledge management of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army?” The type of the study is an applied one and the procedure is descriptive in the format of mixed analysis (qualitative and quantitative). The statistical population of the study includes 50 staffs with a minimum of 15 years of job experience who have at least BA and work in commanding centers, boot camps, and headquarters. The results show that one of the necessary factors for success and enhancing the knowledge management plans in a system is chief-managers’ support. It contains motivating, creating knowledge networks, guiding, developing learning abilities in staff, and finding solutions for restrictions. Granting appropriate rewards to activities that are related to knowledge allotment further than common salary and benefits and also the consistency of the intellectual property system are among the key factors in knowledge management success. Formal or informal proper and effective communications in a system have always been one of the most important elements in the success of the knowledge management process.
