Analysis of Defense Deterrence in the National Security Policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Nuclear Case

Abstract

Deterrence is one of the strategic concepts that means preventing the occurrence of threatening actions by threatening and displaying power and is used in both the field of strategy and diplomacy. In this study, defense deterrence in the national security policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the nuclear case has been studied and analyzed. In this regard, the position of defense deterrence in the national security policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Iranian nuclear file from the time of the formation of the nuclear file to the Comprehensive Joint Action Plan (JCPOA) has been evaluated. The results of a survey evaluation show that "acquisition of defense deterrence" in the national security policy of different governments of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the nuclear case, has had less effect than the categories of identity (identity security) and wealth (economic security). Therefore, from the perspective of this study, although military security and defense deterrence have a central place in the national security policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, but - given that the construction of nuclear weapons has no place in the defense deterrent of the Islamic Republic of Iran - military security And defense deterrence in national security policy in the nuclear program and case has been far less than other categories of security, especially identity security.
